This past Saturday, 3/23/19 I did my first trail race which was at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte. This race was a half marathon which turned out to be a challenge. What appears to be a flat area had some challenging hills to run on the narrow trails. I ended up falling twice which seemed to be commonplace with the other competitors. Overall it was a fun event at a facility that I consider one of the gems of the Charlotte area. The reason I did a trail race and plan to do others is my plan to do the Grand Canyon rim to rim to rim (r2r2r) in early October.
The Whitewater Center is a great facility with some wonderful events nearly year-around. If you live in Charlotte and have yet to visit the facility it is well worth the trip.
